Overview
TIDRADIO packs GPS, APRS position sharing and Bluetooth into this handheld radio, with programming from a phone app or a USB-C port. A mode switch moves it between ham, GMRS and normal use for different licenses.
Location sharing, weather alerts and phone programming in one handheld make it a strong field radio. Real range depends on terrain, height and antenna, so the listed miles are upper limit figures.
Who it's for
Hikers, overlanders and radio hobbyists who want tracking and texting gain the most. Casual users wanting push to talk simplicity may find the menus deep.
Pros and cons
- GPS and APRS position sharing
- Programs from a phone app
- Bluetooth audio accessories
- Weather alert monitoring
- Range claims depend on terrain
- Ham and GMRS use need licenses
- Menus are complex for beginners
Performance notes
Transmit power and antenna length decide reach, so the foldable antenna extends range over the stock one. Hills, buildings and trees cut line of sight and shorten real distance, while repeaters extend it. GPS needs open sky to lock before APRS can share a position.
