Overview
ORIJEN Amazing Grains is a 22.5 lb bag of dry dog food built around whole grains alongside a high-protein formula, made for all life stages except growth in large breed dogs over 70 lb as adults. It's corn-free and wheat-free, with produce like apple, carrot, kale and pumpkin worked into the recipe.
The Amazing Grains name signals this sits apart from ORIJEN's grain-free lines, using whole grains in the formula while still marketing a high-protein, no-added-sugar profile. The allergen claims are specific, free of corn and wheat, but not marketed as grain-free overall, which is worth noting since the two get confused. AAFCO life-stage coverage excludes growth for large breed dogs, so it's not the formula for a puppy expected to top 70 lb as an adult.
- 22.5 lb bag
- High protein, whole grain recipe
- Corn-free and wheat-free
- AAFCO all life stages except large-breed growth
Who it's for
Owners feeding an adult or non-large-breed dog who want a high-protein kibble with whole grains and produce-based ingredients rather than a fully grain-free diet. Not suited to large-breed puppies, since the AAFCO growth claim excludes dogs expected to exceed 70 lb as adults.
Pros and cons
- High protein, no added sugar formula
- Corn-free and wheat-free
- Meets AAFCO profiles for all life stages
- Uses whole grains rather than a grain-free base
- Not suited to large-breed puppy growth per AAFCO claim
Performance notes
The recipe centers on high protein content with no added sugar, built around whole grains rather than potato or legume-heavy grain-free bases, while keeping corn and wheat out of the formula. Ingredients like apple, carrot, chia seed, kale, kelp, pumpkin and spinach are worked in for added nutrients. It meets AAFCO nutrient profiles for all life stages except growth in large breed dogs.
