Overview

ORIJEN Original is a grain free dry kibble from Champion Petfoods built around a high share of animal ingredients including fresh meat, egg and fish, formulated to AAFCO standards for all life stages including large breed growth. The 23.5 lb bag suits households feeding one or more medium to large dogs.

This is a WholePrey style formula, meaning it leans on organs, cartilage and bone alongside muscle meat rather than a single named protein plus fillers. It carries no corn, wheat, soy or potato, adding apple, kelp and pumpkin instead of synthetic filler. Because it is calorie dense, transition and portion size matter more than with a standard kibble.

23.5 lb bag, dry kibble, Original Recipe
AAFCO all life stage formulation including large breed growth
Grain free with apple, egg, kelp, peas and pumpkin
Made by Champion Petfoods

Who it's for

Owners feeding an adult or growing large breed dog who want a grain free, high protein kibble without soy, corn or wheat. Also fits multi-dog households wanting one bag that spans life stages.

Pros and cons

Pros

Grain free and free of corn, wheat, soy and potato
Formulated for all life stages including large breed growth
No added antibiotics or artificial flavors claimed

Cons

Rich formula may need a gradual transition for sensitive stomachs
No flavor variety in this listing beyond Original Recipe

Performance notes

Because the formula is protein and fat dense, some dogs need a slower transition than a standard kibble to avoid loose stool, and portions typically run smaller by volume than a filler heavy food for the same calorie target.
