Overview
A GPS receiver and a Bluetooth link to hands free headsets are built into this GMRS handheld, which talks to other GMRS radios across its channel set. A rechargeable lithium ion pack powers it and charges over the included USB-C cable.
Hands free Bluetooth audio and built-in GPS set it apart from a basic walkie talkie, and the waterproof rating suits rain, snow and boats. The quoted talk range is a maximum, so plan around shorter real distances in hills and forest.
Who it's for
Off-road convoys, hunters and boaters who already use GMRS get a weatherproof handset that pairs with a helmet headset or car audio system. Buyers who need two radios from one purchase should note this box holds a single unit.
Pros and cons
- Pairs with HFP headsets and car audio
- Rechargeable battery included
- USB-C charging cable in the box
- Belt clip included
- Single radio, not a pair
- Transmit power not listed in specs
- Warranty tied to BaoFengTech.com purchases
- Quoted range assumes open terrain
Performance notes
Range is governed by antenna height, terrain and the radio at the other end, so line of sight across water or open ground carries farthest. Battery runtime depends on how much time is spent transmitting versus listening. Bluetooth audio quality rests on the paired headset or vehicle system.
