Overview
North Star Pets sells this silica gel crystal litter in two 4.3-pound bags, designed to absorb urine and dry out solid waste rather than clump like clay litter.
The fresh scent wording in the title does not match the spec sheet, which lists the scent as unscented, so buyers expecting added fragrance should note that before purchase. As a crystal litter it works on a different mechanism than clumping clay: it absorbs moisture into the granules rather than forming scoopable clumps.
- Silica gel crystal formula
- Two 4.3 pound bags per pack
- Absorbs urine, dries solid waste
- Non-clumping
Who it's for
Cat owners who prefer a lightweight, non-clumping litter and don't mind scooping solids rather than clumps. Not a fit for anyone who specifically wants a scented litter or a clumping format.
Pros and cons
- Lightweight compared to clay litter
- Absorbs urine into the crystals
- Sold as two 4.3 pound bags
- Non-clumping, so solid waste removal differs from clumping litter
- Listed as unscented despite the fresh scent name
Performance notes
Silica gel crystals work by drawing urine into the granules while solid waste dries out on the surface for easy removal, a different cleaning routine than scooping clumps. Being non-clumping and lightweight, it tends to weigh less per box change than clay litters of similar volume.
