Overview
Not a single-wood shell, this Mapex combines maple and poplar in one hybrid shell finished in transparent midnight black. The woods are described as made for each other.
The blend gives a warm crack in a deeper shell, which can add body to a backbeat. At this depth and weight it is a larger drum to carry and place.
Who it's for
Rock and general players looking for a body-rich backbeat get a deep drum with a lifetime warranty. Players wanting a shallow accent drum or a complete package should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Maple and poplar hybrid shell
- Deep shell for body
- Limited lifetime warranty
- Transparent midnight black finish
- Heavier than a shallow snare
- Snare only, no stand or case
- Finish type not listed
Performance notes
Maple adds a bright attack and poplar adds warmth, so the blended shell is described as a warm crack with good feel. Shell depth adds body to the tone.
