Overview
Not a soundbar, the BRAVIA Theater Quad is four slim wireless speakers that you place around the room, tied to a small control box. Sony's mapping creates virtual speakers between them, and room calibration tunes the sound to your space.
Four speakers placed around the seats give true surround without a bar under the TV or wires across the floor. Without the optional subwoofer, bass is lighter than the rest of the system.
Who it's for
Movie fans with BRAVIA TVs and rooms where a soundbar would look out of place get immersive, tidy surround. Bass lovers should budget for one of the optional subwoofers.
Pros and cons
- True wireless surround layout
- Atmos, DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced
- Gaming passthrough features
- Stands double as wall mounts
- Subwoofer sold separately
- Needs space for four speakers
- Some features need a BRAVIA TV
Performance notes
Immersion comes from Spatial Sound Mapping, which uses the four speakers to create a dome of virtual speakers around the seats. Sound Field Optimization measures the room and adjusts output, so placement does not have to be exact.
