Overview
Not a camera that needs a dive housing, the Akaso Brave is waterproof by itself for surfing and snorkeling. A front color screen frames selfies, the rear touchscreen handles settings, and electronic stabilization smooths shaky footage.
Going into the water with no case and filming yourself on the front screen covers most vlogging and watersport needs. Frame rates are modest, so fast sports and slow motion clips are not its strength.
Who it's for
Travel vloggers, snorkelers and casual surfers get a ready to shoot kit with card and spare battery. Riders who want smooth slow motion at high frame rates need a faster camera.
Pros and cons
- Waterproof without a case
- Front screen for selfies
- Adjustable field of view
- Memory card included
- 4K limited to thirty frames
- Digital zoom only
- Stabilization is electronic, not gimbal
Performance notes
Smoothness relies on EIS, which crops and shifts the frame to cancel shake, so the widest view angle gives the most room to correct. Distortion calibration straightens the fisheye edges while giving up some width.
