Overview
Not a radio with speakers inside, the WR-50 is a wide component that feeds the stereo equipment you already have. It plays internet stations over Wi-Fi or LAN, tunes FM, receives Bluetooth and reads a USB thumb drive.
The reason to buy is one component covering internet radio, podcasts, FM and network streaming with digital and analog outputs. The limit is that it has no amplifier or speakers and the warranty field is unclear.
Who it's for
People with a hi-fi system looking for a flexible source that also plays podcasts and network music will use every input. Anyone without an amplifier, or who wants a small bedside radio, should choose a different type.
Pros and cons
- Internet radio and FM together
- Bluetooth and network streaming
- Digital and analog outputs
- Remote control included
- No built-in speakers
- Remote batteries not included
- Large for a shelf
Performance notes
Internet stations stream through your Wi-Fi or a wired LAN, so station quality depends on the broadcaster and your connection. Digital outputs pass the signal to an outside converter, while the RCA output feeds an amplifier directly. External antennas improve wireless and Bluetooth reach.
