Overview
DeMarini built the Zen around a Dark Matter composite barrel with a gradual taper that spreads performance across more of the barrel. A stiff composite handle joins it through the Anomaly connection, which aims to soften feedback while transferring energy.
Forgiveness is why to choose it: the two-piece build and connection cut sting, and the barrel profile helps cover more of the plate. Composite construction demands more care than alloy, which the expanded warranty partly offsets.
Who it's for
High school and college players in BBCOR leagues who want comfort on mishits and a bigger hitting area are the audience. Younger players outside BBCOR need a different certification.
Pros and cons
- Composite barrel with a long sweet spot
- Two-piece build reduces sting
- Light end cap for bat control
- Reinforced knob for leverage
- Care instructions not listed
- Composite needs more care than alloy
Performance notes
A two-piece build lets the handle and barrel move slightly apart at contact, which filters vibration before it reaches the hands. The gradual barrel taper spreads the hitting area. Composite barrels can change feel over time, which is why care and warranty matter.
