Overview
Not a digital weather station, this JAY gauge is a plain collector made of UV and heat resistant polycarbonate that mounts with a bracket. It is meant to stay outdoors through all weather and catches rain and snow for a manual reading.
Reason to buy: a weather-resistant material and a bracket make it a set-and-forget fixture on a post or rail. Limitation: the listing is short, with no capacity, markings, accuracy or bracket hardware described.
Who it's for
Gardeners and weather watchers who read a gauge by eye and like a permanent mount will find the polycarbonate body and bracket straightforward. Those who need logged data or a documented scale should look at an electronic station.
Pros and cons
- UV and heat resistant polycarbonate
- Mounting bracket named in the title
- Built for all weather
- Handles rain and snow per title
- Measurement range not listed
- Scale and accuracy unstated
- No digital readout
- Bracket hardware not described
Performance notes
A rain gauge collects water in a tube and you read the level against a scale, so mounting it level and clear of trees and eaves matters most for accuracy. The polycarbonate body resists sun and heat, and the bracket holds it steady in wind.
