Overview
A post in an open yard is the setting for this Stratus gauge, held by the supplied bracket. Rainfall goes through the funnel into an inner measuring tube, and snow is melted and emptied into the tube to read moisture content.
Both rain and melted snow can be measured, and a daily log is included for tracking. The listing names two model codes and does not state capacity or tube markings.
Who it's for
Backyard record keepers can mount it on a post and note readings each day in the log. Those who want wireless data, or a documented capacity, should choose a digital model.
Pros and cons
- Measures rain and melted snow
- Post mounting bracket included
- Daily precipitation log included
- Funnel and inner tube supplied
- Model code differs in the listing
- Capacity not stated
- Snow must be melted by hand
Performance notes
The funnel directs rain into the narrow inner tube, which magnifies small amounts so depth is easier to read. For snow, the user melts the sample and pours the water into the tube, so the measure reflects water content rather than snow depth.
