Overview
A campsite or a home emergency kit is the setting for this Baofeng handheld, a two-way radio that charges over USB-C and stores a large bank of channels. Programming runs through a phone app or by copying a frequency from another radio, per the listing.
Charging from the same USB-C cable as a phone makes top-ups simple during an outage. Several headline features come only from the title, and the spec sheet lists an FRS band. Confirm the features you need before relying on it outdoors.
Who it's for
Campers, hunters and households building an outage kit get a rechargeable handheld with a lot of channel memory. People who work in rain or on the water, or who expect two radios in the box, should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Large channel memory
- High gain antenna in the box
- App programming per listing
- Copy frequency from another radio
- Not water resistant
- No warranty in the listing
- Title features not confirmed in specs
- One radio, so a second is needed
Performance notes
Real range depends on terrain, height and obstructions, with the listed maximum reached only in open line of sight. The high gain antenna helps reach, and the rechargeable pack sets how long it runs between charges. Rain and splashes are a risk because the radio is not water resistant.
