Overview
A motor on the right-hand side extends and retracts the canopy of this Awntech Maui, which is carried by a heavy-duty aluminum and steel frame and operated with a remote. The canopy fabric is solution-dyed acrylic in a terracotta and tan pattern.
Reason to buy: a big motorized canopy brings shade over a patio on demand, with a remote and a tested UV rating. Limitation: the listing gives no weight, wind sensor or mounting guidance, and a large awning needs a sound wall or eave.
Who it's for
Homeowners with a sizable patio who want shade at the push of a button will like the remote and the wide canopy. Renters, or anyone without a sturdy mounting surface, should look at a freestanding shade.
Pros and cons
- Motorized with remote
- Solution-dyed acrylic fabric
- UV80+ tested canopy
- Heavy-duty aluminum and steel frame
- Weight not listed
- Wind rating not stated
- Mounting details unstated
- Large unit needs a strong wall
Performance notes
The motor drives the arms out and back so the canopy opens without hand cranking, and the acrylic fabric blocks sun while still shedding light rain. Frame strength and wall fixing decide how well it handles wind, and the listing gives no wind rating.
