Overview
A hiking trail, a crowded festival or a job site with no cell service is where these UHF radios earn their keep. The Alervites pair skips a keypad and is set up through a phone app, which also sends text and images between radios.
Phone based programming and off-grid messaging make setup and group coordination easier than button menus. Rain is a risk, since the radios carry no water resistance rating.
Who it's for
Families on trails, event staff and security teams get two programmable radios with messaging. Users who need rugged waterproof gear or long published range figures should look at other models.
Pros and cons
- App programming, no keypad menus
- Off-grid text and image sharing
- Wireless channel cloning between radios
- Glove friendly center PTT
- Not water resistant
- Talk range not listed
- Messaging needs a paired phone
Performance notes
UHF signals pass around buildings and trees better than VHF but still depend on line of sight, terrain and antenna height. Privacy codes filter out other users on the same channel without adding range.
