Overview
Icom's comm only airband handheld gives pilots a one press jump to the emergency frequency and quick recall of the last channel. A smart battery shows its status, and an AA case gives backup power when the pack is flat.
Pilots get emergency key access, weather channels and a full accessory kit including an AA case. No navigation functions are included, so it is a talk only backup.
Who it's for
Aircraft owners and flight instructors who want a dependable talk backup will fit well. Cross country flyers wanting NAV backup should step up to a NAV/COM model.
Pros and cons
- Emergency frequency key
- AA battery case included
- Smart battery status
- Headset adapter included
- Bluetooth details unclear
- Only forty memory channels
Performance notes
Transmit and receive quality depends on the antenna and headset setup, with the adapter linking aviation headsets. The AA case extends use when the rechargeable pack runs out. Flip flop recall speeds switching between two frequencies.
