Overview
Not a set of separate surround speakers, the Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar is one long soundbar with front, side and up firing drivers. Sony processing creates phantom speakers around the room, and an AI upmixer and voice isolation lift dialogue.
One bar delivering wide, tall surround leaves the room free of extra boxes and cables. Rear effects stay virtual unless you add the optional rear speakers, and its width suits large TVs.
Who it's for
Owners of large TVs who prefer one tidy bar get spatial sound and clear dialogue. Those who want physical rear speakers from day one should budget for the add ons or look at a multi speaker system.
Pros and cons
- Many drivers in a single bar
- Voice isolation for clearer dialogue
- Phantom speaker mapping
- HDMI 2.1 passthrough for gaming
- Rear effects virtual without add on speakers
- Very wide for smaller TVs
- Subwoofer in bundle not detailed
Performance notes
Surround width depends on side firing drivers reflecting off nearby walls, so open rooms weaken the effect. Up firing drivers need a flat ceiling for height, and calibration adjusts for the room shape.
