A plain disc player for walks and commutes that plays standard and burned audio CDs with skip protection. It ignores MP3 discs and lacks bass boost, so burned MP3 collections need another player.

Overview
Not a streaming device or an MP3 disc player, the Insignia portable is a simple battery powered CD player for standard audio discs and burned CD-R or CD-RW copies. A skip buffer covers bumps while walking, and music plays through the wired headphone jack.
Owners of an audio CD collection get a light player with skip protection and headphones ready to use. MP3 discs will not play and there is no bass boost, so sound shaping is left to the headphones.
Who it's for
Commuters, students and older listeners who still buy or burn audio CDs get a straightforward player. Those with MP3 disc collections or who want wireless headphones should pass, since the listing covers neither.
Pros and cons
- Plays burned CD-R and CD-RW discs
- Skip protection for walking and commuting
- Headphones and batteries included
- Standard jack fits wired earphones
- No MP3 CD playback
- No bass boost setting
- Battery runtime not listed
Performance notes
Skip protection works by reading ahead and storing audio in a buffer, so short jolts are covered while the laser finds its place again. Disc condition matters, since scratched or poorly burned discs strain tracking, and battery charge governs how long playback lasts.
