Overview
Not a spruce topped dreadnought, this Yamaha uses mahogany for the top, back, sides and even the binding. The result is a warm, woody look and a voice centered on the middle frequencies.
Mahogany throughout gives a rich midrange that suits blues, folk and singing along. The neck has an adjustable truss rod. There is no pickup, and the box holds only the guitar.
Who it's for
Fingerpickers, blues players and singers who want a guitar that stays behind the voice will enjoy the warm tone. Players needing to plug in or wanting brilliance should look at spruce and electronics.
Pros and cons
- Unlaminated mahogany top
- Warm midrange tone
- Adjustable truss rod
- Full dreadnought body
- Case not included
- Less treble sparkle than spruce
Performance notes
Mahogany is denser and softer sounding than spruce, so the top emphasizes midrange and rolls off sharp highs. The large dreadnought body adds depth to the low end.
