Overview
Next to a PlayStation console on the TV stand, this portable drive plugs into a USB port and the console walks you through setup. It draws power from the USB connection and can travel to a friend's console with your library on it.
Adding a large game library to a full console takes one cable and no tools. It is a mechanical disk, and the listing only describes PlayStation use, with game portability tied to the original owner's PSN sign-in.
Who it's for
PlayStation players with a full internal drive and a growing download library get an easy fix. Computer users needing a general backup drive should look at drives built for PC and Mac.
Pros and cons
- Plug-and-play PS4 setup
- Bus-powered, no extra cord
- Works on every PS4 model
- Carry games to a friend's console
- Mechanical disk, slower than flash storage
- Short USB cable
- Playing elsewhere needs owner PSN sign-in
- Warranty not listed
Performance notes
Load times depend on the spinning disk and the console's USB port, so games stored here load at hard drive pace. Bus power means the console port must supply enough current, which the listing says it does on any supported PlayStation model. Game count depends on game size, which varies widely.
