Overview
Tama designed the Cocktail-JAM as a compact birch kit that sets up and plays from a throne in spaces far smaller than a standard drum set. The drums and hardware pack into two bags made for the kit.
Portability is the case: one trip from the car with two bags, and a footprint that fits a corner of a small room. Birch gives punch and focus. Adding cymbals means buying the attachment kit.
Who it's for
Working drummers on small stages and anyone rehearsing in cramped spaces. Players wanting deep bass and many toms should choose a standard kit.
Pros and cons
- Very compact footprint
- All birch shells
- Fits into two bags
- Cymbal mount sold separately
- Hardware contents unclear
- Small kick limits low end
Performance notes
Birch shells give a punchy attack with focused low end, which suits close miking in small rooms. The small kick produces less bass than a full size drum. Expandability lets you add pieces as gigs demand.
