Overview
Baofeng packs this handheld with selectable transmit power, a large channel memory, GPS with location tracking and NOAA weather alerts. Frequencies load from a phone app or copy from another radio, and the big battery charges over USB.
Phone programming and frequency copy remove the cable-and-software hassle that slows many handhelds. The radio is not water resistant and no warranty is offered, so it needs protecting outdoors.
Who it's for
Emergency planners and hobby operators get tracking, weather alerts and flexible charging in one unit. People heading into wet conditions or wanting warranty support should choose another radio.
Pros and cons
- Selectable transmit power
- Large channel memory
- GPS with location tracking
- NOAA weather alerts
- Not water resistant
- No warranty offered
- Antenna lengths conflict in the listing
- Licensing guidance not covered
Performance notes
Range depends on the power setting, the antenna in use and terrain, and the longer tactical antenna improves reach over the stock one. Battery runtime drops on high power, so the lower settings stretch time between charges.
