Overview
Not a desktop drive with a power brick, this Seagate portable holds large libraries in a slim case powered over USB. It backs up on demand or on a schedule for Windows and Mac.
Large capacity in a light shell with recovery services makes it a strong carry drive for archives. Transfers run at hard disk speed, and the drive needs care against bumps.
Who it's for
Home users backing up laptops and holding media libraries. Editors who need speed should choose a portable SSD.
Pros and cons
- Large capacity in a slim case
- Recovery services included
- Photo software included
- Spinning disk speed
- Time Machine may need reformatting
- Enclosure material listed inconsistently
Performance notes
Read and write rates are set by the spinning disk, so copying a full library takes time. Bus power from the USB port means a single cable setup. Scheduled backups run automatically once configured.
