Overview
Callaway reengineered the Chrome Soft X as a modern tour ball for elite players, with a larger SoftFast core and a two layer mantle system to raise ball speed. A thinner, resilient cover lowers spin on full shots while holding spin around the green.
Fast ball speed with low driver spin and high wedge spin gives better players distance and control in one ball. The listing names the material oddly as rubber and gives no compression, which leaves fitting to outside data.
Who it's for
Elite and low handicap players with faster swings who want a firm tour ball will benefit from the speed system. Slower swingers will likely not compress it enough to gain its distance.
Pros and cons
- Four piece tour construction
- Larger core for ball speed
- Low spin on full shots
- High greenside spin
- Compression not listed
- Cover material listed as rubber
- Firm feel for slow swings
Performance notes
Distance comes from the large core and the soft inner and firm outer mantles working together to raise ball speed. The thin cover lowers spin on full swings for longer, straighter shots while still gripping wedges. A penetrating, low drag flight holds the line in wind.
