Overview
A percussionist who wants a seated drum with a low tone and a snare buzz in one box gets a cherry-faced cajon from Pearl. The body is made of MDF, and the bass port is built in.
The reason to look at it is the pairing of a built-in port and snare wires in a compact hand drum with a handsome faceplate. The limitation is that the snare response is set at the factory, and the finish and component entries read oddly.
Who it's for
Players joining acoustic sessions or busking will use the snare and bass voices without extra gear. Drummers who like to tune the snare response by hand, or who need a clearly documented finish, should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Figured cherry faceplate
- Built-in bass port
- Two sets of snare wires
- Two year warranty
- Snare wires fixed, no adjustment listed
- Finish entry is garbled
- Included components read like drum parts
Performance notes
The cherry faceplate is described as a close tonal match to maple, with extra bottom-end, and the built-in bass port magnifies low frequencies. Two sets of fixed snare wires give a bright, crisp response. The MDF body and engineered wood construction set the overall resonance.
