Overview
Backing up a laptop with one click or on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, this Seagate pocket drive plugs in by USB and stores photos and files. Mac owners can use it with Time Machine after reformatting.
Scheduled backups plus a recovery service plan make it a sensible safety net for a laptop. As a mechanical drive it reads more slowly than flash storage and is more sensitive to drops.
Who it's for
Students, home users and Mac or Windows laptop owners get easy backups with recovery coverage. Video editors wanting fast scratch storage should look at flash drives.
Pros and cons
- Light, pocketable size
- Scheduled backup options
- Data recovery service included
- Works with Windows and Mac
- Spinning drive, slower than flash
- Mac Time Machine needs reformatting

Performance notes
Speed is limited by the spinning platters and the USB link, which suits backups and photo libraries more than live video editing. Backup software runs on a schedule so copies happen without thinking about it.
