Overview
Expanding a console or PC game library is the job of this WD_BLACK drive, which spins at a faster speed with a fan to stay cool. Two USB charging ports on the front top up controllers and headsets.
Faster disk speed and active cooling help game loads and long play sessions, and the charging ports free console USB slots. It runs from an AC adapter, so it stays near an outlet rather than in a bag.
Who it's for
PlayStation, Xbox and PC players with big libraries and recorded clips. Travelers wanting a pocket drive should choose a compact portable model.
Pros and cons
- Faster spinning disk
- Two device charging ports
- Very large capacity
- Needs AC power
- Larger than typical portables
- Micro-B cable connector
Performance notes
Load times benefit from the faster spindle speed, though an SSD still loads faster. Active cooling holds temperatures steady during long sessions. The charging ports draw from the AC adapter, not the console.
