Overview
The Z Grills ZPG-600D is a pellet-fueled smoker built from alloy steel, standing 49 inches tall on a 21 by 46 inch footprint and weighing 81 lb.
Z Grills built its name on pellet smokers that automate temperature with an auger and hopper system, and the ZPG-600D's 81 lb weight and steel body point to a standing unit meant to stay in one spot in a yard rather than travel often. Its footprint sits in the mid-size range for pellet smokers, room enough for slow cooks like ribs or a small brisket without the scale of a competition-grade rig.
- Pellet fuel system
- Alloy steel body
- 21 x 46 x 49 in
- 81 lb weight
Who it's for
Fits people who want set-and-forget pellet smoking for backyard cooks rather than a portable unit for camping or tailgating. Not the right pick if floor space is tight, given the 46 inch width.
Pros and cons
- Pellet system suited to long, low-temperature cooks
- Alloy steel construction
- Mid-size footprint for backyard use
- 81 lb weight makes it a stay-put unit
- Not built for frequent transport
Performance notes
Pellet smokers like the ZPG-600D feed wood pellets from a hopper into a firebox to hold steady low temperatures over long cooks, which is the main appeal of the format over charcoal or gas. At 81 lb, this unit is built to stay put once set up, and the alloy steel body is meant to handle sustained outdoor exposure.
