Overview
Dragging and dropping years of photos, movies and backups onto one desktop drive is the job of this Seagate Expansion. Plug in the power adapter and USB cable, and Windows or Mac recognizes it without software.
Enormous capacity with no setup software makes home and office backup simple. It needs mains power and stays on a desk, and Mac users must reformat it for Time Machine.
Who it's for
Families and small offices archiving photos and video get vast storage with recovery service. Travelers should look at a portable drive.
Pros and cons
- No software needed
- Works on Windows and Mac
- Data recovery service included
- Cable and adapter included
- Needs a power outlet

Performance notes
A single mechanical drive sets transfer speed, so large copies take time even over a fast USB link. Drag-and-drop works immediately on Windows and Mac. Usable capacity is slightly less than listed after formatting.
