Overview
A hard drive inside a blue plastic enclosure stores the files, and a single USB cable carries data to the computer. Password protection and WD Backup software, both named by the maker, handle security and automatic copies.
A cross-platform listing for PC and Mac makes it useful as a shuttle drive between home and work computers. Its spec sheet carries odd entries, including an unrelated voice assistant tag and a near-useless transfer rate, so treat capacity and warranty as the trustworthy figures.
Who it's for
Families moving photos between a PC and a Mac get a shared portable drive with backup software. People who edit video straight from the drive need faster storage than this listing can confirm.
Pros and cons
- PC and Mac both listed as platforms
- Password protection named in the description
- Comes with WD Backup software
- Console use listed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 4
- Transfer rate listing is unusable
- Disk type not stated beyond portable
- Spec sheet includes unrelated feature tags
- Plastic shell rather than a rugged case
Performance notes
Real copy speed comes from the drive mechanism and the USB port it is plugged into, and an older USB port on the computer will cap it. Sharing between a PC and a Mac depends on the drive's file system, so check the format before filling it.

Does the WD My Passport 3TB include password protection?
The description says it pairs with WD Backup software and password protection to help protect files.
Is the speed of the WD My Passport 3TB listed?
Only a data transfer rate of 1 megabyte per second appears, which does not match a USB 3.0 drive and should not be relied on.
