Overview
C. Crane packs AM, FM, shortwave, aviation and weather reception into the CC Skywave SSB, a palm-size travel radio with an LCD and clock. A built-in AM antenna handles local stations, while a supplied reel antenna and adapter extend shortwave reach.
Band coverage is the reason to carry it, since single side band shortwave and VHF aviation share one small case with ordinary AM, FM and weather bands. The kit adds earbuds, a carry case and a reel antenna. The speaker is small, and nothing in the listing confirms an automatic weather alert.
Who it's for
Shortwave listeners and travelers who want aviation and weather bands in a bag-size radio get the full antenna kit here. Those needing loud room-filling sound or rain protection should choose a different radio.
Pros and cons
- Single side band shortwave reception
- VHF aviation and weather bands
- Reel antenna and adapter included
- Earbuds, case and power adapter in kit
- Small speaker for room listening
- Not water resistant
- Weather alert function not listed
Performance notes
Shortwave and single side band reception depend mostly on the antenna, which is why the reel antenna and adapter matter for weak distant stations. The small built-in speaker governs how loud and full voices sound, so earbuds suit quiet listening. The built-in AM antenna handles local stations without extra wire.
