Overview
Not a single plug thumb drive, the SanDisk Phone Drive has both USB Type-C and Type-A connectors for moving files between a phone, tablet and computer. The Memory Zone app adds automatic backup.
Two connectors remove the need for adapters or emailing photos to yourself. Automatic backup and recovery software add peace of mind. Speeds depend on the host port, and the companion software needs download and registration.
Who it's for
Phone owners running low on storage or moving files between a phone and a laptop will use it often. Users without USB-C or USB-A ports need a different drive.
Pros and cons
- USB-C and USB-A in one
- Automatic phone backup
- Recovery software included
- Light and compact
- Speed depends on host port
- Apps need download
- Write speed not clearly stated
Performance notes
Transfer speed is capped by the slower of the drive and the port, so older ports run slower. The backup app copies new files automatically once set up. Large single files transfer more efficiently than many small ones.
