Overview
The SanDisk Ultra Flair is a 128GB USB 3.0 flash drive in a metal casing, rated for read speeds up to 150MB/s with built-in password protection for private files.
SanDisk pitches this as a faster, sturdier alternative to a basic plastic flash drive, aimed at moving large files rather than everyday USB 2.0 memory sticks. The password protection relies on 128-bit AES encryption through SanDisk's SecureAccess software, which Mac users need to download separately since it does not come preinstalled on the drive for that platform.
- 128GB capacity
- Up to 150MB/s USB 3.0 read speed
- Metal casing
- 128-bit AES password protection
Who it's for
Anyone who regularly copies large files between computers and wants a drive that survives being tossed in a bag will find the metal shell reassuring. It is not a fit for someone who needs certified hardware encryption for regulated or highly sensitive data.
Pros and cons
- Durable metal casing over plastic shells
- USB 3.0 speeds well above USB 2.0 drives
- Password protection option for private files
- 128GB fits large file collections
- Password protection needs separate software on Mac
- Speed depends heavily on host device and port
Performance notes
Rated up to 150MB/s read speed over a USB 3.0 connection, which SanDisk says can move a 1.2GB video file in under 30 seconds on a compatible host. Actual speed depends on the USB port and computer used, and the password protection feature requires installing SanDisk's SecureAccess software, an extra step on Mac.

Frequently asked questions
Does the SanDisk Ultra Flair 128GB work on Mac?
Yes, and the password protection feature works on Mac OS X 10.9 and later, but it requires downloading SanDisk's SecureAccess software separately.
What read speed does this flash drive reach?
Up to 150MB/s over a USB 3.0 port, based on SanDisk's internal testing; actual speed varies by host device.
Is the SanDisk Ultra Flair encrypted by default?
No, password protection with 128-bit AES encryption is an optional feature turned on through SanDisk's software, not an always-on setting.
