Overview
Baofeng built this handheld around GPS position sharing and a large rechargeable battery, wrapped in a metal shell with big buttons and a fall detection alert. It transmits at selectable power and receives aviation, FM and NOAA weather.
Location sharing between teammates plus a fall alert make it a safety tool for groups in rough terrain. It is not water resistant, and the channel count differs between the bullets and the spec sheet.
Who it's for
Outdoor teams and emergency preppers get positioning, long runtime and a full accessory kit. Those wanting a light pocket radio or water resistance should look at other handhelds.
Pros and cons
- Selectable transmit power
- GPS position and sharing
- Large battery with Type-C charging
- Fall detection alert
- Not water resistant
- Heavier than basic handhelds
- Channel count conflicts in the listing
- Licensing guidance not covered
Performance notes
Range follows the power setting, antenna and terrain, and the high-gain antenna reaches beyond the gooseneck one. GPS position depends on clear sky view, and high power drains the battery faster than the low setting.
