Overview
Baofeng wraps its classic dual band handheld in a metallic rugged shell for this Plus model, with a color display and keypad programming. It takes the extended batteries and accessories made for the series.
Outdoor users get a tougher shell, a color screen and wide accessory support. The listing makes no FCC compliance statement, and it is not water resistant.
Who it's for
Off-road trips, outdoor events and emergency kits suit the rugged shell and dual band coverage. Users in wet conditions should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Rugged metallic shell
- Color LED display
- CHIRP and CPS programming
- Takes extended batteries
- Not water resistant
- Programming cable sold separately
- No compliance statement in listing
Performance notes
Range depends on power level, antenna and terrain; the higher setting reaches farther while the lower one saves battery. Tone codes let it share channels without hearing every user.
