Overview
Talking on digital DMR networks and analog channels is what this Baofeng dual band handheld is built for. It adds built-in GPS with APRS position reporting, a fall alarm, voice recording and text messaging, and charges over USB-C.
GPS, APRS and recording are rare on a handheld at this size, which helps teams and emergency users track each other. Programming DMR codeplugs takes time, and the listing states no warranty.
Who it's for
Licensed hams, search teams and event crews using DMR repeaters get location sharing and logs. Casual users without a license should look at FRS radios.
Pros and cons
- DMR plus analog dual band
- GPS with APRS reporting
- Fall detection alarm
- Large contact directory
- No warranty stated
- Water resistance claims conflict
Performance notes
Range depends on terrain, antenna and repeater access more than the radio itself. DMR splits each channel into time slots, so two calls can share one frequency. GPS fixes need open sky, which affects APRS updates indoors.
