Overview
Not a simple USB-C hub, this CalDigit dock is a Thunderbolt dock with a dedicated power supply, fast networking and a full set of storage and display ports. Its aluminum body works as a heat sink, and two USB controllers split the front and rear ports.
One cable gives a laptop high charging power, multi display output, fast SSD links and ten gigabit Ethernet networking. Full speed needs a newest generation Thunderbolt or compatible USB host, and Windows needs a separate Ethernet driver.
Who it's for
Mac and Windows creators moving large files get bandwidth, storage readers and networking in one hub. Casual users with a mouse and one monitor will not use most of it.
Pros and cons
- Many high speed ports
- Strong host charging
- Fast Ethernet built in
- Two USB controllers avoid bottlenecks
- No support for non Thunderbolt hosts
- Windows needs an Ethernet driver
- Needs open air for cooling
Performance notes
Bandwidth shifts toward displays when high refresh screens are connected, so storage and screens share the link without manual settings. Older Thunderbolt hosts cap speed and display options, and heat is shed through the metal body.
