Overview
A go-bag or a camping trip is where this compact Baofeng handheld earns its space, with NOAA weather alerts and AM and FM radio on top of two-way talk. Dual PTT buttons and dual watch let you talk and listen across two channels.
Buy it for easy phone-app programming and a bright color screen in a pocket-size radio. It is not water resistant and the listing gives no power output or range, so treat it as a basic handheld.
Who it's for
Suited to radio hobbyists, campers and emergency kits where weather alerts and flexible programming help. Users new to radio should note that radios must share the same channel and subcode to talk.
Pros and cons
- App programming without cables
- Dual PTT and dual watch
- NOAA weather alerts
- Large channel capacity
- Not water resistant
- Transmit power not listed
- Setup has a learning curve
Performance notes
Range and clarity depend on terrain, antenna and channel settings matching the other radio, since devices must share channel and subcode. Dual watch monitors both A and B channels, and the app copies frequencies quickly instead of manual keypad entry.
