Overview
Streaming Spotify or Audible over Wi-Fi, or playing local lossless files from a memory card, this MECHEN player works like a small phone without a cellular radio, with an FM tuner, a recorder and a built-in speaker.
Streaming apps and offline files in a phone-free player are the reason to buy it for workouts or kids. Open Wi-Fi and Play Store access mean parental controls need setting up.
Who it's for
Suited to gym sessions, commutes and audiobook listening. Parents seeking a locked-down device should look for a player without Wi-Fi.
Pros and cons
- Runs streaming apps over Wi-Fi
- Large storage expansion
- FM radio and voice recorder
- Older Android version
- Older Bluetooth version
- Child-safe claim conflicts with Wi-Fi
Performance notes
Wi-Fi streaming and Bluetooth headphones both draw on the battery, so playback time varies with use. Local files on a memory card play offline and stretch battery further.
