Best OverallChoose this specifically for its airline compliance; it is a travel tool first and a home crate second.
A straightforward small-breed training crate with a divider panel that makes it useful through a puppy's growth, as long as the dog stays under 10 lbs.
Popular PickA sensibly equipped medium crate, worth it mainly for the divider panel that stretches its use from puppy through adult size.
A practical, resizable wire crate for small breeds, with the divider panel doing most of the work of extending its useful life.
A foldable, assemble yourself exercise pen for containing a smaller dog in one spot, functionally a playpen despite where it sits in this catalog.
A standard folding wire crate sized correctly for large dogs, with a leak proof tray and latch that closes securely. Confirm the single door layout matches what you actually need before buying.
A compact 4-panel playpen for puppies and small dogs, with a latch door for easy access, but the 24 inch height is a limit for bigger or jumpy dogs.
A foldable open-top exercise pen offering roughly 16 square feet of space, useful for containment during supervised play rather than unattended confinement.
A convenient pop-up pen for supervised play or travel containment, not a substitute for a hard crate with a determined dog.
A workable travel crate for calm large dogs, not a heavy-duty option for dogs that chew or claw at fabric.
A no frills wire crate with a growth-adjusting divider, priced and built as a basic option rather than a heavy duty one.
A straightforward foldable wire crate for large dogs, with the leakproof tray and divider panel covering both everyday and puppy-to-adult use.
A foldable eight-panel metal playpen with a locking gate, useful for containing small pets indoors or outside, though the 24 inch panels won't hold back a determined jumper.
A compact single-door crate for small dogs that folds down for storage, with a removable tray for cleanup and a locking system meant to resist pawing.
A travel-friendly small pet pen best suited to short-term or supervised containment rather than an unattended, long-term enclosure.
A large-format wire crate whose divider panel gives it some flexibility beyond a single fixed size, useful for a growing dog.
A lightweight, foldable 8 panel playpen sized for small dogs and puppies that packs down for travel as easily as it sets up at home.
A modular plastic playpen with a floor for small animals such as rabbits, hedgehogs, and ferrets, not a dog crate despite its category placement.
A heavier duty crate build for medium and small dogs that push past standard wire crates, with a removable tray and lockable wheels for cleanup and moving.
A solidly sized wire crate for large dogs, worth it for the two-door layout and multi-point locking if you have the floor space.
A lightweight, easy to configure indoor playpen for puppies and small dogs, with the 24 inch open top panels as the main limit on which dogs it can safely contain.
A straightforward double-door wire crate for medium dogs, with a removable tray and a folding frame for easy storage.
A compact, assemble-yourself indoor pen suited to small dogs and puppies needing supervised containment rather than an outdoor enclosure.

These 4 dog crates are the most searched brands and models among the established products in this category (monthly searches for each brand and model); on a tie, the one with more owner ratings ranks first. Product data comes from public Amazon listings (updated 15 days ago). We do not test products ourselves.
MidWest Homes for Pets, Amazon Basics, Homey Pet, FXW, IRONCK lead this category among the 36 brands that passed our curation checks.
A listing appears only when it has a recorded price, a minimum customer rating, and enough ratings or monthly sales. Generic and unbranded listings are left out, while every real brand stays, including brands sold only on Amazon. The ones that pass are ordered by how many people search for that brand and model each month; review counts only break ties.
Folding wire crates, rigid plastic crates and furniture-style crates differ in how they pack away and how much of the room the dog can see; fabric crates add another collapsible option, but suitability depends on the dog's chewing and scratching. Start by deciding whether the crate will stay in a dedicated spot or need to move regularly between rooms, storage and trips.
For a crate you expect to move frequently, compare its listed weight with what you can comfortably lift through your actual route, including stairs. Among the 45 products that list item weight, most fall between 9 and 50 pounds, and 20 pounds is typical.. Weight alone cannot tell you whether a crate will fit through a doorway or into a car: compare its assembled and folded dimensions with those spaces. Some folding crates become broad, flat packages that still need substantial storage room, while some rigid crates separate into nesting sections. Look at the folding or disassembly instructions to judge whether packing it away suits your routine. A carrying handle should not be taken as permission to lift the crate with the dog inside; follow the manual's carrying instructions.
Size the interior around the dog's measurements, with room to stand naturally, turn around and lie comfortably, rather than relying on a breed-size label. For a growing puppy, an adjustable divider can keep the usable space appropriate as the dog grows; check whether it is supplied or sold separately. Then assess containment: a dog that paws at latches or chews panels needs construction appropriate to that behavior, and a fabric enclosure may be unsuitable. Crate strength is not a solution for a dog that panics when confined; resolve that before selecting an enclosure for unattended use.
Before buying, compare door positions and their opening clearance with the intended location; the number of doors gives access options but does not tell you which side opens. Labels such as Metal, Alloy Steel and Plastic leave open which components they describe, so identify the frame, panels, floor and tray separately. For cleanup, find out whether the tray slides out with the crate assembled, whether seams can trap urine, and which cleaners the manufacturer permits. If the design uses a removable tray or proprietary latch, check whether replacements are available for that exact crate.
