Popular PickA sensibly equipped medium crate, worth it mainly for the divider panel that stretches its use from puppy through adult size.
A no frills wire crate with a growth-adjusting divider, priced and built as a basic option rather than a heavy duty one.
A large-format wire crate whose divider panel gives it some flexibility beyond a single fixed size, useful for a growing dog.
A no-frills single-door metal crate that covers the basics of training, travel and easy cleanup, though it has no review history yet to confirm how the latch and frame hold up over time.
Best OverallA strong wire crate for medium to large dogs that push or chew at doors, with two entries for flexible placement. Dogs near the top of its weight range may need the larger size for comfort.
A properly sized, airline-rule-compliant hard crate for genuinely large dogs, with the wheels and hardware that make actual air travel and terminal transport workable.
A slim, furniture-style crate with pinch-safe mesh and doors that can be moved around the frame. The box holds fewer doors than the frame can take, and material and weight are not listed.
A thoughtfully built crate for a large dog whose owner moves it between rooms or stores it often. It is heavy for a folding crate, and the size name deserves a check against the measurements.
A sensible hard kennel for flying or driving with a medium dog, with two doors and a vented shell. Dogs past the weight limit need one of the larger sizes in the range.
A tidy, foldable home kennel and car crate for small dogs who rest calmly inside. The maker says it is not for escape artists, so a dog that chews or pushes at doors needs something stronger.
A straightforward large dog crate that folds without tools and grows with a puppy through its divider. Material and weight are not listed, so check them before ordering for a strong chewer.

MidWest Homes for Pets, Diggs, EveryYay, Amazon Basics, Sweetcrispy lead this category among the 9 brands that passed our curation checks.
A listing appears only when it has a recorded price, a minimum customer rating, and enough ratings or monthly sales. Generic and unbranded listings are left out, while every real brand stays, including brands sold only on Amazon. The ones that pass are ordered by the ProductDome score, which weighs owner satisfaction, rating volume, demand and data quality.
Pet crates come in open wire and more enclosed shell designs, which differ in how much of the room a pet can see; some designs also fold for storage. Start by deciding whether the crate will stay in a dedicated spot or move between locations, because a crate that fits at home may be awkward to carry through doorways or load into a vehicle.
For frequent moves, compare the listed weight with what you can comfortably lift along your usual route, including any stairs. Among the 7 products that list item weight, most fall between 14 and 53 pounds, and 24 pounds is typical. Weight cannot tell you how much storage space a crate needs, so compare its packed dimensions with the space available between trips. Some crates fold flat, while others need sections separated; read the setup instructions to judge whether the process suits your frequency of use. Establish whether handles are intended for carrying the empty crate or whether carrying a pet inside is permitted. For vehicle use, check whether the manufacturer permits it and provides instructions for securing the crate.
Size the usable interior against your pet’s measurements, allowing room to stand naturally, turn around and lie comfortably with bedding in place. The doorway must also accommodate your pet’s body width. If you need a divider to adjust that space as your pet grows, confirm compatibility with the crate and whether it is supplied or sold separately. Compare door positions with the intended location: a side entrance can provide access where an end entrance would face furniture. The number of doors filter helps narrow entry options, but the listing needs to show where those doors sit and how much room they require to open. For a pet that paws at exits, inspect how the latches engage and whether securing them requires additional locking steps.
Before buying, identify which components the Metal or Plastic label describes, such as the frame, shell, floor or removable tray. Inspect the floor design and any guidance about a liner or pad, including whether a required insert is supplied or sold separately. For cleanup, establish whether the tray slides out independently or whether washing the floor requires dismantling the crate, and follow the stated cleaning restrictions for each removable part. Replacement trays and latches should have a stated fit for that crate’s size and design.
