SD Cards

Full-size SD cards fit an SD slot directly, while Micro SD Cards need a suitable adapter for that slot; an adapter adds another part to keep track of when moving the card between devices. Start by deciding how much you need to record between transfers, so the capacity you buy reflects a shooting session or trip rather than the largest option available.

Capacity matters most when you cannot conveniently copy files elsewhere. Among the 21 products that list memory storage capacity, most fall between 32 and 128 gb, and 64 gb is typical. Use the file sizes or recording estimates for your camera’s intended settings to judge how much space a session needs: higher video bitrates and larger image files consume space faster. A larger card lets you go longer between changes, while spreading a trip across separate cards reduces how much footage is exposed if a card is lost or damaged. For multipacks, read whether the stated capacity applies to each card or to the package total before comparing storage.

For video, match the card’s sustained writing specification to the camera manual’s requirement for the recording mode you intend to use. A prominently advertised transfer speed may describe reading files, which is a different task from recording them. For bursts of still photos, look for the camera manufacturer’s card guidance for your chosen image format, since a card that cannot keep up can leave you waiting for the camera’s buffer to clear. If copying large shoots is a regular chore, compare the card’s advertised read performance with what your card reader and computer connection support; transfer results depend on the whole connection and the files being copied.

Before buying, confirm the device’s supported card designation and maximum capacity in its manual, then match those requirements to the listing’s SD, SDHC or SDXC designation. For cards with an additional row of contacts, check whether the camera and reader support the interface needed for the advertised performance. A compatible adapter or reader may be sold separately, so inspect the package contents if either is needed. For cards carried loose between shoots, check whether a protective storage case is supplied or must be bought separately.

How we list products: every listing here has a recorded price, a minimum customer rating and enough ratings or monthly sales. Generic and unbranded listings are left out; every real brand stays, including brands sold only on Amazon. Products are ordered by the same ProductDome score on every page.Editorial policy
