Overview
Seagate's Backup Plus Portable stores a large library in a minimalist metal enclosure powered by one USB cable. It backs up with a single click or on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule for Mac and Windows.
Large capacity and built in backup scheduling cover most laptop backup needs. Time Machine users may need to reformat, and the drive needs gentle handling while running.
Who it's for
Students and home users protecting photos and documents. Video editors working off external storage should use a portable SSD.
Pros and cons
- Works with PC and Mac
- Spinning disk speed
- Time Machine may need reformatting
- Sensitive to drops while running
Performance notes
Copy speeds are set by the internal hard disk, steady for large files and slower for many small ones. Scheduled backups run in the background. A single USB cable carries power and data.
