Overview
Not a feature packed backup drive, the WD Elements is simple plug and play storage that connects over USB and works with Windows right away. It is small and light enough to travel in a laptop bag.
Simplicity is the point: plug it in and drag files over, with no software to manage. Anyone wanting automatic backups or password protection will need separate software.
Who it's for
Students and home users expanding storage for photos, videos and documents. Users needing encryption or recovery services should look at higher tier drives.
Pros and cons
- Plug and play
- Small and light
- Works on older USB ports
- Two year warranty
- No backup software listed
- Mac may need reformatting
Performance notes
Real speed is set by the spinning disk inside, below the USB link limit. Bus power from the computer means a one cable setup. Older USB ports work but slow transfers noticeably.
