Overview
Not a bulky desktop drive, the Seagate Backup Plus Slim is a thin portable hard disk in a textured metal finish that runs from one USB cable. Backup and encryption features help protect the files stored on it.
A slim body and enough space for photos and documents make it an easy everyday backup. It is a spinning disk, so it is slower than flash and should be handled gently.
Who it's for
Students and home users backing up a laptop get a light, thin drive that works on Mac and Windows. Video editors needing fast scratch storage should look at an SSD.
Pros and cons
- Very slim and light
- Works on Mac and Windows
- Backup and encryption features
- USB 2.0 backward compatible
- Spinning disk is shock sensitive
- Modest read speed
- Box contents not detailed
- Warranty not listed
Performance notes
Read speed is limited by the spinning disk rather than the USB connection. Large files copy steadily, while many small ones take longer. A slower USB port reduces speed further.
