Overview
Seagate built this special edition Game Drive around Bethesda's Starfield artwork, with a polycarbonate shell and RGB lighting you can customize. Inside is a portable mechanical hard disk that plugs into an Xbox or PC over USB and stores games, saves and other files.
Licensed Starfield styling and a data recovery service make it more than a plain storage box for a console. The drive inside is mechanical, so it moves files at hard disk speed, not flash speed.
Who it's for
Console players who keep many installed titles and want them on a drive that matches a Starfield setup. People who care only about the quickest load times should look at flash storage instead.
Pros and cons
- Officially licensed Starfield design
- RGB lighting can be customized
- Works with Xbox Series and Xbox One
- Also works with a PC
- Mechanical disk, slower than flash storage
- Usable capacity may be lower than stated
- PlayStation support not listed
Performance notes
Transfer rate depends on the spinning platters inside, not on the USB link, so large game copies take longer than they would on flash media. Being a portable drive, it draws power over the cable it uses for data, and a bumped or dropped spinning disk is more at risk than flash.
