Overview
An enterprise-class Seagate BarraCuda Pro disk spinning inside an aluminum case gives the LaCie desktop drive its speed and quiet running. It connects by USB-C and works with Mac and PC over USB.
Creatives on SSD laptops get a large, fast archive plus data recovery coverage for years. It stays on the desk, and the cable details for older USB-A computers are not spelled out.
Who it's for
Creative professionals with growing photo and video libraries get speed, capacity and a recovery service. Travelers and students needing portable storage should choose a bus-powered drive.
Pros and cons
- Enterprise-class internal drive
- Aluminum case damps noise
- Data recovery service included
- Long limited warranty
- Desk-bound, not portable
- Speed figures differ in listing
- Cable contents not listed
- Heavy for a single drive
Performance notes
Throughput is set by the spinning BarraCuda Pro disk, so large sequential files move near the rated speed while many small files run slower. The aluminum case absorbs vibration, which also lowers noise on a desk. A USB-C port on a modern computer avoids bottlenecks from older ports.
