Overview
Not a complex ham radio, this BAOFENG is an easy GMRS walkie pair for families and groups. It scans NOAA weather and reaches repeaters set up in four groups.
Simple controls, weather alerts and earpieces make it ready for road trips and camp. The listing gives no wall charger, so a USB adapter is needed.
Who it's for
Road trips, campgrounds and neighborhood emergencies suit a pair that charges together. Hobbyists wanting wide bands should choose a ham radio.
Pros and cons
- Repeater channels included
- NOAA weather scan
- Earpieces in the box
- Both radios charge from one cable
- Wall adapter not listed
- GMRS license needed
- Channel count listed two ways
Performance notes
Range depends on terrain and repeater access, and the repeater channels extend reach in hilly or built-up areas. VOX opens the mic when you speak, which helps while driving.
