A slim USB-C flash drive for freeing phone and tablet space and moving files to a computer. It has only a Type-C plug, so USB-A machines need an adapter.

Overview
Not a dual-plug drive, this PNY Elite-X carries a single Type-C connector for phones, tablets and modern laptops. A sliding cover shields the plug, and you can play videos and music straight from it without a network.
Plugging straight into a phone frees space without cloud uploads, and the sliding housing protects the connector. Older computers with only USB-A ports will need an adapter.
Who it's for
Mobile photographers and travelers get quick offloads and offline playback. Users of older PCs should look at a drive with both plugs.
Pros and cons
- Plugs straight into USB-C phones
- Sliding cover protects plug
- Fast read speed
- Offline media playback
- Write speed not clearly stated
- Box contents not listed
Performance notes
Read speed is the headline figure, so copying from the drive is fast while writes depend on the host. Full speed needs a matching modern USB port. The sliding housing retracts the plug to prevent damage in a pocket.
