Overview
Not a general-purpose quickdraw, the Photon Express KS is purpose-built for onsight sport climbing. The Photon carabiners are shaped for smooth clipping, and the dogbone webbing varies in width so it is easy to grab.
Weight and speed are the design goals, with the SphereLock closure presented as a cleaner-nosed upgrade to a traditional keylock. A Karstop Evo retainer secures the carabiner at the rope end. The listing names a mixed pack but does not give the length split.
Who it's for
Sport routes where every gram and every second counts are the setting. Anyone who needs to know exactly how many short and long draws come in the pack must ask first.
Pros and cons
- Light carabiners for fast clipping
- Variable width webbing is easy to grab
- Rope end retainer included
- D-shape aluminum design
- Length split in the pack not stated
- Closure fields describe the gate differently
Performance notes
Lighter carabiners cut the weight carried on a long route, and the cleaner nose helps the rope clip smoothly. Wide webbing is easier to grab while working a route, and the retainer holds the rope-end carabiner in position.
